Silk painting 3Who is this class for?

This class is for beginners to silk painting and those wanting a refresher.

This class is for artists and non artists. If you are an artist you will learn new techniques and can use your artistic  talents to make your own design on silk. However, for those that find drawing tricky you will be able to trace a design onto your silk.

How big are the class sizes?

Class sizes are small, restricted to six students. This allows the tutor to offer you plenty of help and advice when needed.

What techniques will I learn?

A silk painting is created by applying an outline, or gutta, to the silk. You then add dyes to the silk to make your pattern or picture. The gutta acts as a resist to stop the colours running into each other.

You will learn

How to prepare your silk.

How to apply the gutta to the silk

How to mix and use dyes to cover the silk.

How to use salt for a special effect.

What will I make on this class?

At Crafts Bee we know that practice makes perfect. You will have a test piece of silk to practice on before moving onto to design and make a silk painting to take home.

What experience do I need for this class?

You do not need any previous experience of silk painting for this class.

What do I need to bring with me?

All materials and equipment are provided.  You will need to bring some lunch although there are plenty of places locally where you can buy some.
